This time last year, the idea of a few people having to celebrate birthdays during lock down seemed a sad reality. We’re now a year on and pretty much everyone has had to celebrate some sort of celebration in lockdown, isolation or restriction. Although an end is hopefully in sight, if you are looking to celebrate a birthday in lockdown, here are a few ideas of how you can really mark the occasion.

1. Get Some Nice Food Delivered

For lots of us, the idea of going out for dinner and drinks on our birthday is something that we really look forward to. Although we can’t do the same in lockdown, there is no reason why we shouldn’t enjoy something tasty. Have a look at local takeaway delivery options to see what you can treat yourself to – afternoon tea, a pizza making kit or even cocktails are all lockdown birthday possibilities.

2. Catch Up With Friends

Seeing loved ones is another thing we often look forward to doing on our birthdays, so make sure you do this in lockdown too. Maybe get a group of friends together for a birthday quiz or arrange for everyone to have their dinner at the same time and have a video dinner party? It may not be the same as every day real life that we’re used to, but seeing your friends in this way is bound to perk up your day.

3. Treat Yourself

Money is a tricky subject and lots of people are having to tighten their belts during lockdown. However, if you can’t treat yourself for your birthday, when can you? Take the money you’d usually spend on a new outfit for your birthday night out and treat yourself to something fancy – some chocolates just for yourself, a new perfume or even some new bedding. Anything that you would consider a treat, get it – after all, YOLO!

4. Virtual Gaming

There have always been virtual gaming options out there, but over the last 12 months the options surrounding these have expanded massively. You can have a look at online quizzes, escape rooms and even karaoke! Invite a group of friends to celebrate with you by joining in and before you know it you have an online birthday celebration to remember.

5. Bring the Party Home

During lockdown, celebrating special occasions at home doesn’t have to be dull. With a little creativity, you can transform your space into the ultimate party zone. One great idea is to bring the fun directly to your doorstep by renting décor, games, or even themed setups. If you’re area, you can hire out dallas party rentals as it makes it easy to recreate the atmosphere of a big event without leaving home. From bounce houses and photo booths to stylish tablescapes and lighting, these rentals can turn any backyard or living room into a festive venue. It’s a safe, memorable way to celebrate while staying connected.

6. Don’t Forget to Celebrate Others

Lockdown is tough for many people especially with regards to isolation and seeing loved ones. If you know a friend has a birthday coming up, why not send them a card? Lots of us are out of practice when it comes to sending cards, because we’re so used to seeing our loved ones and wising them a happy birthday face to face. With this not a possibility at the moment, what could be nice than a doormat full of birthday cards to wake up to on your big day?

Try to accept that a lockdown birthday will be different, but it doesn’t need to be a disaster. Plan some fun activities and catch-ups with a friend, treat yourself to a bubble bath in the afternoon and just relish the day that is all about you – after all, we can make up for it next year when all of this is over.
