Over the last three weeks we’ve seen the designers’ collections for S/S12 hit the catwalks in three out of the four fashion capitals of the world. I’ve watched the shows, read the magazines and browsed the blogs and now I’ve put together my top three collections from each city.

New York

 

1.Victoria by Victoria Beckham

Not only was Victoria Beckham showing her high end collection at New York Fashion Week but also a new diffusion collection. The collection is way more quirkier than her high-end line with cute prints and bright colours. The dresses were a new direction for super glam Victoria Beckham but they are definitely winning my vote of fashion love and hopefully yours too

2. Charlotte Ronson

Charlotte Ronson’s collection was simple in its design but pretty and cute. I like the use of collars and variety of fabrics. It is definitely a collection that is more accessible to wear everyday and I will be taking inspiration from this collection for next season.

3.Jenny Packham

As usual Jenny Packham provided some of the most beautiful evening dresses possible! Delicate but sexy they ooze feminity and class and let’s face it if it’s good enough for Princess Middleton then it’s good enough for me.

London

1. Erdem

Known was his exquisite use of floral patterns Erdem Moralioglu’s collection again triumphed in this collection of innocence and precision. With a greater use of blue hues than ever before seen in his work the collection had a cooler feeling than the usual delicate aesthetic. Moralioglu quoted the collection was inspired by the “seen and unseen” for all their seeming decorum, yet the collection bared more skin than any before.

2. Michael van der Ham

Michael Van der Ham appeared on the fashion scene last year and as his third collection his work continues to grow in ingenuity and design. More than ever this collection has taken on an element of refinement and although perhaps less edgy than previous collections I love the more elegant aesthetic to his assemblages of patterned fabric.

3. Peter Pilotto

Pilotto’s collection is said to inspired by a recent trip to Indonesia and when I first read this I was a little dubious to see the outcome of this inspiration, but I glad to report that instead of typical tropical prints Pilotto has challenged his perspective and considered aquatic looks instead. I love the use of vibrant primary colours in the collection and the precision cut is as strong as ever in Pilotto’s work.

Milan

1.Dolce and Gabbana

Dolce and Gabbana steered away from the florals for S/S12 instead opting for a combination of fruit prints and floral embellishment. I love the textured look in this collection and the mix of bright colours. Again pale blue appeared to be a prominent colour in the collection like so many others this season however this time it was contrasted with a variety of colours making it a little different.

2. Missoni

Missoni is one of Milan’s biggest and oldest family ran fashion houses and this year they were back to what they do best! Each garment had its own tribal spin and the use of colours was more varied than any other collection I’ve looked at. For me Missoni is still best for its patterned knitwear as seen in the picture on the left.

3. Versus

The unusual duo of Donatello Versace and Christopher Kane created an even more unusual collection channeling cheerleader and basketball looks, yes you read correctly, however I really like it! I like the geometric prints and fitted shapes the collections offers.

So far from New York we’ve had quirky prints, from London blooming florals and from Milan fruit mixes! Now I’m looking forward to seeing what Paris Fashion Week has to hold and will be updating you on my favourite collections next week.
