Next week, Shakespeare’s great tragedy, Othello, will be staged in the unique and intimate performance space at The Lantern Theatre, by local award-winning Black Box Theatre Company.
This famous tale of jealousy and retribution sees villainous Iago seek to punish Othello for promoting inexperienced Cassio above himself. Manipulatively, Iago preys on Othello’s suspicions and convinces him that his beautiful wife, Desdemona, has been unfaithful with Cassio. Tragic consequences follow as the events play out, demonstrating what happens when jealousy escalates out of control.
Black Box are touring this production in theatres and schools across the north-west. They are well-known for their tours of classic literature, including Of Mice and Men (2012), An Inspector Calls (2011), and Hamlet (2010).
You can catch Othello at The Lantern Theatre on Blundell Street, on Thursday 11 – Saturday 13 April. Tickets cost £10 for adults and £8 for concessions, and can be bought online here.
