Whether you have lived in Liverpool a while or you’re just planning a flying visit, there are so many things in the city that you have to experience. As English cities go, this city in the North West offers so much. It’s a friendly, vibrant and bustling city which offers something for absolutely everyone. Here are just a handful of the places you simply must-see if you’re visiting Liverpool.
A Beatles Tour
Everyone knows that Liverpool is the birthplace of The Beatles and whether you’re a fan or not, you’ll find the places on any Beatles tour fascination. It goes without saying that you have to pay a visit to The Cavern Club, it can be busy in the evening and at weekends, but if you’re nearby it’s highly recommended that you pop in. Other places on any Beatles tour include the former homes of with Paul McCartney (20 Forthlin Road) and John Lennon (251 Menlove Avenue). You can also visit Penny Lane, Strawberry Fields and the Cavern Walks.
Royal Albert Dock
Beautiful in the summer, but equally breath-taking when the weather isn’t as nice, the Royal Albert Dock is a site that anyone visits the area should visit. Whether or not you’re on the lookout for a new home you can admire the luxury apartments here. However, you’ll also be well looked after with a range of designer shops, museums, cafes and restaurants.
The Museums
There are lots of different museums in Liverpool and they all offer up something a little different. If you’re into art then a visit to either Tate Liverpool and the Victoria Gallery is highly recommended. For a little on the history of Liverpool, the Merseyside Maritime Museum at the Royal Albert Dock makes for an interesting few hours out too. There is also a titanic memorial at the Three Graces buildings in Pier Head. The museum of Liverpool only opened in 2011, but it has lots to celebrate the uniqueness of the area.
Birkenhead Park
If you’re in the mood for some fresh-air then a trip to Birkenhead Park is a must! Located just west side of the Mersey it is easily accessed by the Mersey Ferry service or the Liverpool tunnels if you’re driving. There are three entrances to the park, two lakes and even its own art gallery and museum. If you’re in the area then the ruins of the 12th-century Benedictine abbey nearby are also worth checking out.
Whether you’re looking for unusual places to eat, you want to picnic in the great outdoors or you want to get educated at a museum, there is no denying that Liverpool has plenty to offer anyone visiting. These are just some of our favourite places, but the great thing about Liverpool is that there is a never-ending listing of new places opening up and even pop-up offerings that are only there for a few weeks. When you’re due to visit the city, do some research beforehand and you’re bound to find a range of wonderful things to do while you’re there.
