If your anything like me, you put your hair through hell, and then you’re shocked when the super glossy locks you hoped for don’t materialise.
From daily straightening to endless brushing and back-combing, our barnets have a rough deal when it comes to looking good. Hair oils are the new ‘it’ item on the beauty scene, creating a huge hype in the hair product market.
All sorts of brands are jumping on the band wagon and every hair stylist is releasing their own version of this sort after substance. You can find products ranging from £3.00 to £30.00 – but what is the difference between these oils? And will any of them get our tresses in similar shape to our celebrity hair crush?
1. Moroccan Oil – £31.00 for 100ml
Ideal for: Thicker hair in need of taming.
This was one of the first hair oils to be released and proves very popular in the hair world, apart from the hefty price tag. The whole range (shampoo, conditioner, oils and treatments) works perfectly together, not only improving the condition of your hair but assisting the growth process too. The oil feels quite greasy when you put it on and you only need the tiniest bit (which is one way to justify the price), but it does work, improving the condition of your hair dramatically whilst making the whole room smell amazing! Smaller bottles are available so if you wan’t to try it but not splurge your cash, go for a mini size (25ml for around £12). Quick Tip – don’t wipe the residue left on your hands off on a towel rub into hands/knees/elbows for a great moisturiser.
2. L’oreal Extraordinary Oil – £9.99 for 100ml
Ideal for: Thick, dry hair
This one, although it left my hair looking in good condition, it also felt slightly greasy. Claiming versatility, this extraordinary product can be used on wet or dry hair, or as a pre-shampoo treatment, so its worth testing out what works best for your hair type . We’ve only tried it on wet hair, so maybe give it a go for yourselves.
3. TRESSeme Liquid Gold £6.99 for 75ml
Ideal for: Thinner, greasier hair
This is not specifically a hair oil but it is Argan Oil infused, and worked well for me. It’s lightweight and ideal for people who have to wash their hair daily as its easy to work in, not too heavy and it doesn’t really matter if you put on a tiny bit too much! Out of all of the products tested, this leaves the least amount of residue on the hair but in turn didn’t create as much shine as the others. Nonetheless locks feel sleek, soft, and the dry ends were nourished.
4. Phil Smith Be Gorgeous, Total Treat Argan Oil – £5.50 for 50ml
Ideal for: Any hair type, people with time to spend
This was recommended to me and I was not disappointed! The oil is presented as a cream which I think is a refreshing change to the greasy liquid consistency most of us don’t get along with. This smells delicious, and the scent lingers in your hair which you will love. It keeps hair-dos shiny, smooth and in place, hair even stays straight in all this wind we get in Liverpool. However it is easy to use too much thanks to the non-greasy feel and it takes a while to work it into the hair – so be careful and take your time!
There’s a lot of choice out there, and it can be tricky to find the right oil for hair type. But with the ever expanding and increasingly affordable options available, it’s worthwhile hunting down the right product to suit you. Hair oil could be that secret ingredient your hair has been craving and could result in super silky tresses ready in time for the summer!
