It’s time to make some home improvements. 2020 forced many people across the country – and even across the world – to spend more time indoors, and they realised just how many things that aren’t quite right in their homes. You may have spent more time on Instagram or Pinterest looking for ideas, and now it’s time to put them into action. Start small and then build on them as you figure out what direction you want to go with it.

These are five different things that you may have considered doing this year to make your home look more vibrant for the new year.

1. Modernise Your Shower

Whether you are going for something at the high end like a Kohler Luxstone Shower or you are looking for something a little more humble, always consider whether it fits the overall aesthetics of your room. The last thing you want is for one of the features to look out of place, forcing you to change the whole room around in the future. It’s not worth the cost and added time that will go into making these changes.

2. Declutter Your Excess

Whether you decide to go to your local charity shop, eBay or simply throw things our, you would be surprise by just how much better your home feels once you have got rid of a bunch of things that you simply do not need any more. It’s essential that you do this before you do anything else, because it may give you a different perspective on what storage you need.

3. Create a Home Office

In 2020 so many more people were forced to work form home. It meant that many people had to go out of their way to invest in things that they may not have thought was necessary before – including home office equipment. So long as you have the essentials for your job – like a computer and maybe a phone line – the rest is up to you.

Some work better with a standing desk, others prefer a traditional one. Just make sure that you have a space that feels like you can create a productive environment to get things done. The last thing you want is for your own home to hinder you from getting tasks done.

4. Paint Your Ceilings

It’s funny how certain things in your home you don’t tend to alter them at all from the day you move in. Really, we should look at everything objectively at least once a year to see how we may be able to improve them. Your ceiliings definitely fall under this category. Every once and a while, take a look and see if they need to be refreshed.

You can completely hide any imperfections and it will give the ceiling a clean and fresh look. If you want the ceiling to look like a brand new ceiling, painting is your best bet. Painting is durable and easy to maintain, but it’s a little trickier to roll out the paint by yourself. Get a friend’s help to roll out the paint and you should be good to go.

5. Buy New Switches

A dimmer switch allows you to control the amount of light emitted by your lamps. This is especially convenient with halogen lamps, as you can dim them to a level that is just right for a room. Dimmers are usually recommended for use with halogen lamps, as the brightness of a halogen lamp changes with its temperature. It’s a great touch that can allow you to set different moods in a room in a very subtle way.
