It is incredible how significantly the Covid-19 pandemic has impacted the way that people live their lives today. There are people in some industries that cannot believe their luck in terms of how the events now mean that they no longer have to work in offices, and that their commutes have become obsolete, allowing them to move to more affordable locations and spend more time working from home. With less people travelling, having to face other people or having to spend time around their peers, there are positives and negatives, but no one can deny it’s a massive change.
Among the many things that this has a knock on effect on is with greenhouse gas pollution. With significantly less planes in the sky, cars on the road and emission-producing vehicles around, the air is cleaner. Some industrial cities are reporting up to 40% reductions in their nitrogen dioxide pollution. Amanda Jo, Organic Bunny has suggested that this has a great knock-on for those that have been wanting to alter their skincare routines.
These are a handful of things to keep in mind if you think it’s time to change your usual home beauty routine:
1. Less Pressure to be Seen
First things first we have to address the fact that without the need to actually be seen in person, many people have chosen to not to wear makeup, or apply things to their skin that would otherwise cause some irritation (no matter how mild it may be). These extended times at home gives people the time to try out new things (their self-styled hair) without the thought of what other people will think.
2. Limited Access to Professional Treatment
Depending upon where you are in the country (or even the world) will determine what access you currently have to professional beauty facilities. There are some places (like the UK) where absolutely all treatments of this sort are completely off-limited until safety checks have been made and that restrictions are lifted on a case by case basis in each region. It gives you added reason to invest in better home treatment for yourself.
3. People are More Mindful of Their Own Personal Impact
There are astonishing differences in the amount of air pollution in many urban areas. This is carried through to other things too, such as the soil, our waters and our wider environment. As more people become aware this, it’s making them want to go the extra mile to ensure that they are carbon neutral, for example with people choosing to replace gas cars with electric ones, and some getting rid of their altogether without the need to commute long distances.
4. Organic and Eco Go Hand in Hand
Organic skin care has no synthetic pesticides, as a foundation. That’s a positive with obvious far-reaching benefits. On top of that, many organic brands are mindful of their environmental impact in terms of ones you – the consumer – is finished with the product, so often choose to use packaging that can be reused, recycled or composted, making it more sustainable. For those that consider this important, it’s definitely worth looking into them further.
