I am lucky to work for myself and have a job I love, but I know things aren’t always that easy. I’ve definitely worked for a mixture of employers before and it’s crazy how much attitudes can change from one place to another. Plus, attitudes can change over time within the same job too! Work politics always play a part and trust me when I say there have been plenty of office politics in my previous career.

However, what I would say is that we live in a time where you’re entitled to be happy at work and if you’re not and you are in a position to do so, do something about it. If the last year has taught us anything it is that life is changeable and therefore, too short to do something that makes you miserable. It might sound a bit scary, but there are things you can do to help get you that decent working environment.

Employment Issues

Sometimes there are more serious issues within employment – unfair dismissal, being treated unjust and forced redundancy just some of the ones that spring to mind. With anything like this at work, there are rules and guidelines in place to protect employers and so if you feel your employer hasn’t acted fairly then you may wish to reach out and get legal advice. You could speak to your HR department; you might be a member of a union or it could be seeking professional advice. Whatever route you go down, talking to a professional is worth its weight in gold.

Getting Help

If you have been treated unfairly at work then you may be entitled to a settlement agreement, this means that your employer pays you financial compensation and you both draw a line under what has happened. A legal agreement has to be drawn up and both parties generally agree that the situation is not discussed further.

If you do want to go down this route, it’s important that you contact someone like Wilson Browne Solicitors for their advice. They are experienced employment solicitors so are well versed in getting employees any compensation they are owed. If you choose to pursue a settlement agreement on your own then you may find that you aren’t able to negotiate an amount as high as you would be without some legal representation behind you, so it’s always best to have a chat to them and see what they can do to help!

We all deserve to feel happy and safe within our working environment, so if you don’t, make sure you seek advice.
