I wonder if we’ll ever not talk about lockdown, restrictions and the global pandemic. My guess is that it is all around for a while, even though we have the good news that we’re on track for restrictions to be lifted as per the Government Road Map. I am looking forward to being able to get back to some normality with the boys, especially as the Bank Holiday gave us some sunshine and a glimpse of what is to come!
Hobbies For Everyone
I bet lots of us have tried something new in the last 12 months; we’ve just had a bit more time to try new things haven’t we? Even those working full-time through the lockdowns (thank you) have had time at home during days off etc., so it was the perfect opportunity to try something new – I bet most of us have baked a banana bread or two, it was just the done thing wasn’t it?
Chums have come up with #CraftyBritain which takes a look at the hobbies Britain is loving most, going by what has been searched on Google over the last 12 months. Some of the hobbies that have had the most searches included jigsaw puzzles, knitting and sewing – all of which I think I would have a go at, although my house is a bit chaotic for that most of the time.
Spending Time Doing Something You Love
I loved see the range of things on the creative hobby list put together by Chums – painting, Sudoku and even song writing made the list – showing that Britain is indeed a crafty bunch! I have to say, I think it’s pretty awesome how Britain just got on with being stuck at home and found new ways to keep families entertained. I know that with 2 young boys our arts and craft boxes have never seen so much us – as a family that are used to being out and about with the boys it was a definite adjustment for us, so I am not surprised that people were turning to Google for extra inspiration on how to spend their days.
Lockdown or not, it is so important to spend some time doing something you love. We all live such busy lives and between school runs, cooking dinner and a laundry pile that never seems to go down, it doesn’t always leave much time for doing something fun. However, we need to put ourselves first and look after ourselves, and doing something we love is a big part of that.
Recently, we went to the extreme of buying the boys a massive trampoline for the garden to keep them entertained. It might not be an arts and craft hobby but it’s a great way for them to get some exercise and burn off some energy, so I’m a big fan!
