It’s certainly fallen out of favour as a commercial flooring go-to with the cost, upkeep and ease of installation with its alternatives making it frequently loose out to laminate and wooden flooring. With so many types carpet, it can be a long-winded and intimidating experience the first time around. Here are the things you need to consider when you’re buying new carpet for your office facility:
1. How Many People Use the Space?
A meeting room, executive suite and main floor space are likely to all have different requirements for their carpets, and it’s worth putting some real thought into what you would want each room to feel like before you fully commit to a particular style. A room that is mainly going to be used for one person to sit in with (at maximum) an assistant and the odd guest is a different world to one where hundreds of staff are walking around all day.
2. How Much Furniture Does the Carpet Need to Withstand?
As per the previous, furniture has to be a big consideration before you decide on a particular type of carpet. Will the floor space be used in a room that requires frequent furniture moves? If so, you don’t want to use carpet that marks and indents when heavy goods are placed on it for a few hours (never mind a few months!)
3. How Long Will the Area Be Carpeted?
Is this a long-term investment or is it a trial? Would a rug be more suitable? Is it a transitional, temporary floor while you move into a space, and that you plan to upgrade when your business is able to more easily absorb the cost? Ensure that you have thought it through, because the last thing you want to do is overspend on carpet that you didn’t really want for the long-term.
4. What Will the Carpet Look Like in the Office?
It’s important to see your carpet in different light settings before you pull the trigger and buy it. Office lighting can be very different to the lighting you have when you first see a carpet or what you see when you look at it on a web page. For that reason you need to make sure that you have properly considered whether it fits an office.
5. How Will it Treat Coffee Spillage?
Like it or not, someone is eventually going to spill their coffee on the carpet. It’s not ideal, but it’s the reality of having an office. There’s no use in buying a carpet that stains badly when certain substances come into contact with it, because it will leave you wanting to completely replace it. Some carpets clean easily and others really suffer when certain things are rubbed into it, so be sure to consider carefully before you make your decision.
