There is no denying that women are awesome, however that doesn’t mean they always get the opportunities that they deserve. Employment is one place where across some industries women are left behind in terms of pay, bonuses and opportunities. Although the tide is turning on this a little but, there is still plenty of work to do especially around the opportunities given to women of colour or those with disabilities. I wanted to share some tips with you for getting the education you want, because there is no way that you should be left behind just because you are unsure of how to get the qualifications you need.
Look At Scholarships
It can be easy to assume that finances are a barrier to education, but that doesn’t always have to be the case. For example, you could apply for something like the Nancy Etz scholarship, which if accepted means you get a lump sum towards your tuition costs. Many universities and adult education facilities with having scholarships available, you may even find the industry you want to work in has companies that provide finance packages. You may need to do a little research however you will often find that there are opportunities for funding out there so it is well worth looking into.
Online Courses
Time can often be a barrier for going into further education – after all, if you have a family to look after and a job to work, finding time for anything else can be a struggle. However, if you sign up to an online course then these often offer flexible working which means that you can go at your own pace. As the course is online you are able to access it at the weekend or late into the evening so it makes it much easier to be able to find around the life commitments you already have. You’ll find online courses on all sorts of subjects, so there is likely to be something to suit your needs.
Help From Local Authorities
Depending on what you wish to study you may find that there are some local authority options to help with finding placements or getting funding. The best thing to do is to head to the education section of your local council website and this will often point you in the right direction. You will sometimes find that you’ll need to do refresher courses on other subjects to brush up your skills but it can be a good way to get your foot in the door.
The important thing to remember is that you deserve an education and that you are worthy of learning more. Sometimes when things are a struggle it can feel as though it is a barrier because something is not meant for you. This is not the case at all. Instead, stand your ground look at all of the scholarship, access and funding options open to you and soon you’ll be on the first steps to the high education you deserve!
